Greetings Marcia Buker Families!
We have had a great transition to April at Marcia Buker! As I write this on Friday, there is finally some sunshine and the kids are shedding mittens and coats at recess!
Springtime is also marked by many celebrations and events. We begin next week with the grade 3 musical! I look forward to enjoying the show with family members on Friday!
Behavior Management Resource: Another March-April phenomenon more challenging than a lost mitten is the return of dysregulated behavior among children that we thought we had corrected only to find out it was just lying dormant! I've had conversations with many parents in the last few weeks about students struggling with impulsivity, intense emotions, and refusal at school, and I've heard just as many times, "We are seeing the same thing at home." To help get your child back on track, I am sharing a resource that many teachers find effective in the classroom, which AI and I have adapted for home use. If you try it out, let us know how it went!

New Marcia Buker Vision Statement: Finally, this week, I am pleased to share with you the new Marcia Buker Vision statement. One of our school goals this year was to write a new vision, and the Leadership Team and I wanted to do so in a meaningful but economical way. We started last August with each staff member writing down something they were proud of in their practice and something they were excited to try this year. Next, a School Vision Committee, led by Troy Kendrick, worked to find the themes in those notes, and draft a vision statement. Next, during an early release day in January, nearly every staff member in the building participated in an activity that led to our final vision statement:
We envision a collaborative culture where the community unites to foster engaging learning experiences that empower students to thrive in a diverse and ever changing world.
For me, the Marcia Buker Vision both describes our current school community and serves as a powerful touchstone for future endeavors. We hope it speaks to you as well.
In partnership with you!
Mary

Spring Cleaning and the Holiday Bazaar
If you have any new or very gently used items that you would be willing to donate for students we’re happy to accept them at school. Spring cleaning seems like the perfect time to accept your treasures. Items that “sell” well are candles, jewelry, baseball hats, hand tools, mens work gloves, small kitchen items, etc. Please do not send stuffed animals or clothing items. We are also in need of holiday gift bags and tissue paper.
Much Appreciation,
Kerry Gardner, Bazaar Organizer
Thanks to the PTG for making the visit from the Chewonki Foundation possible through fundraising efforts, and to the community for participating in the fundraisers!
The very popular annual PTG Calendar Raffle is underway. You can check out the details on the PTG Facebook page. We would like to thank all the businesses for the very generous donations to the cause.
