Greetings Families!
I hope you are enjoying a nice Sunday!
All things considered--and that includes very cold weather, an uptick in illness, and the early signs of cabin fever--we had a good four days at school! Last week, I visited every class during the first hour of the morning to see how our teachers and students were starting their day. The Bobcat Sightings video shows that, at Marcia Buker, students begin learning and having fun from the first bell!
Please take a moment to read the Dates and Notices below so you don't miss any important information, including the reminder that Friday is an Early Release Day and a message from Nurse DeWever.
Wishing you time in the warming sun of late January this weekend!

A Message From Nurse Ashley
Dear Families,
We have seen a significant increase in absences due to illness. These illnesses can spread quickly, and we want to do everything possible to minimize their impact on our students and school community. We urge you to take the following precautions:
Frequent handwashing: Remind your child to wash their hands thoroughly and frequently, especially after using the restroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.
Avoid sharing personal items: Advise your child to avoid sharing personal items such as water bottles, food, and utensils.
Cover coughs and sneezes with an elbow or tissue (not hands)
Keep sick children home: If your child is experiencing any of the following symptoms, please keep them home from school:
Fever: A temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or higher. Students must be temperature free without fever reducing medication for 24 hours before returning to school.
Vomiting: Keep your child home for at least 24 hours after their last episode of vomiting.
Diarrhea: Keep your child home until their diarrhea has subsided for at least 24 hours.
Rash: any new onset of rash if accompanied by fever, may return after the rash resolves or diagnosis is made and clearance given.
Strep Throat- a student with strep throat must remain home until they have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
Colds: A child with thick yellow-greenish mucus accompanied by fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or constant nasal discharge should remain home. Very few younger children can effectively blow their nose and wash their hands afterward. A child with the above symptoms will quickly spread the illness to others.
Other- any symptoms that prevent your child from active participation in usual school activities.
If your child is too sick to come to school, please call the school so the attendance can be excused and properly documented. Encourage fluids, ensure adequate rest at night, and encourage good hand washing. Additionally, if your house gets hit with the germs, wash down frequently touched items such as light switches, faucets, flushes, doorknobs, etc.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a healthy learning environment for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me!

AM Drop Off: Repeat Request: AM Student Drop-off Reminder: We kindly ask that you follow the important guidelines below so that all families have a timely and safe drop off.
Be as quick as possible getting your child out of your car and into school. Long goodbyes hold up the line behind you.
If you must walk your child to the door, please pull ahead beyond the exit or into the municipal parking lot and park to allow stream of vehicles to keep moving forward.
Pull to near the turn onto the exit road before having your child get out of the car (This is a matter of safety).
Your fellow parents thank you for these considerations.
