Betsey

Thank you Betsey Noble!

Hello Families!

As we closed out this week at school, we wished farewell to our Library Ed Tech, Betsey Noble, who is leaving us to focus on her work at Richmond's Umberhine Public Library and on personal pursuits. Betsey has worked in Richmond for 24 years, with 12 of them in our MBES library. She is the unsung hero who has produced our yearbooks; she has been instrumental in helping to organize Family Reading Night each year; and she has curated a stunning school library.

Betsey Noble is also a curator of the mind, a scholar I have long admired for the wealth of knowledge and wisdom she has cultivated in herself, and the generosity with which she shares that wealth, often with a great sense of humor. For a number of years, each week, Betsey sent out to her colleagues what she called the Friday Folio. It was a chronicle of her literary discoveries, found treasures, book recommendations, relevant fun facts, and interesting resources. I loved and will always remember the Friday Folios.

Betsey's students will always remember the way she brought stories to life as she read aloud in the reading corner, her talent for finding books and activities to match their interests, and her enthusiasm in engaging them in the world through guest speakers and digital travels. It is only fitting that the last book Mrs. Noble read aloud to students at Marcia Buker School was Plant the Tiny Seed. The seeds of knowledge and inspiration Betsey has planted over the years will grow within every student and adult whose life she touched.

In early October of 2021, Betsey closed her Friday Folio with a simple observation that is a perfect keepsake from her years of service:

“Each day has an idea of something nice to do for someone else or yourself.”

Thank you, Betsey, for your years of service! It's time now to do that "something nice" for yourself!

Have a great weekend, Families! There are certainly many gifts from nature to receive: the late fall warmth and sun, the Super Hunters' moon, the once-in-a-lifetime comet, and the wildest of flowers still in bloom. Enjoy them all!
