Dear Families,
I am writing to let you know that, over the next two weeks, we will be conducting a series of lockdown drills. The purpose of these drills is to practice responding to a "lockdown" directive during different activities and in different locations, such as the playground cafeteria. The first drill will be before the end of this week and will be followed by five more drills for specific grades and circumstances. All but one drill will take place by October 2nd.
Chief Donnell is aware of the plan and the schedule and will make sure dispatch knows when the drills will occur.
We feel it is important to have these drills early in the year so that, in the event of an actual threat, students will have had practice responding.
How we will help students prepare for and debrief the drills:
Students will have a chance to pre-practice and/or talk about the drills with their teachers.
Teachers will discuss the drills in terms that are appropriate for the age and needs of the students they teach.
After a drill, teachers will debrief with students.
Teachers will tell students who are absent for the drill and explain to them how the class responded to the "Lockdown" command.
Shortly after a drill, parents and guardians will be notified so you can follow up at home.
Please email or call me if you have any questions.
