Hello Families!
I hope this finds you enjoying this perfect late spring weekend in Maine!
It's so hard to believe that the last day of school is only 8 (EIGHT!) school days away! Our teachers, ed techs, and the entire MBES team are doing their very best to keep students learning right up to the last day. If I tried to summarize all the amazing field trips, historical research, ecological studies, and other hands-on learning activities they have created for our students, this letter would be far too long. I'll let the Bobcat Sightings slideshow do the telling!
As we near the end of the school year, I'd like to thank the family and community members who support our school in countless ways. Without that support, Marcia Buker would not be the special place it is to teach and learn.
In Partnership With You,
Mary

It Takes a Village
In May, the Maine CDC partnered with school-aged students to raise awareness about Lyme disease. The theme of this year's poster contest was Little Tick Big Problem! We are pleased and proud to announce that our very own, the talented and creative, the one-of-a kind, Keira Letendre won first place in the grade 4-5 category! Congratulations Keira! And congratulations to our other contestants Megan Stephenson, Molly Decker, and Layla McKenna!
Bikes for Books: Thanks to Dave Thompson and Masonic Village Lodge 26, and Walmart for inspiring kids to read and get outdoors!
Grade 4 reenactment of historic Richmond: The students and their teachers thank the community members who donated vintage clothing that made their reenactment of historic Richmond fun and realistic! Thanks also to Ed Friedman of Friends of Merrymeeting Bay and Jonathan Mirin of The Piti Theater for giving our students a sense of place in Richmond! See the Bobcat Sightings video for scenes of the project.
New fridge for the staff room: We are so grateful to Main Street Fuel for purchasing a gently used refrigerator for our staff room! What a generous thing to do!
Thanks to Emma Lorusso, Project Director for the Androscoggin Valley Soil & Water Conservation District, for teaching students about pollinators during Plant a Seed Day, and for bringing environmental and conservation education to our students throughout the year!
Grants from The Maine Environmental Education Association and Oakhurst Dairy helped fund the Plant a Seed Day Activities. Many thanks to these partners!
