Greetings Families!
I hope this finds you well and enjoying the beauty of springtime in Maine!
The last week of April 2024 has been a fine week at Marcia Buker, thanks to all the excellent learning opportunities our teachers and support staff create for our students. For example, students in all grades have been learning about outer space under the big Planetarium dome. This year, I did not have a chance to see the show, but I could hear, from just outside the dome, students exclaiming, “Wow!” and “Ohhh!” The teachers who did take in the presentation with students say it was engaging and inspiring to students. I trust they told you about it at home; if not, be sure to ask!
Continuing our spring recognitions, this week, we celebrated and recognized our MB School Nutrition Professionals, Kathy Amos, Cristal Hurd, and Kelly Dumont on School Lunch Hero Day! It’s become common knowledge nationwide that the individuals who serve school breakfast and lunch every day are some of the most important people in our schools. Among them, our Marcia Buker nutrition team is outstanding. Many foods on the menu can’t be prepared and cooked on site, which means that meal components must be transported from RMHS in large rolling coolers to our school. The foods are unpacked, prepared, kept hot, and assembled into balanced meals. Our heroes perform this rather tedious task every single day with efficiency and smiles. And when students go through the line to receive their meals, each is greeted by name with warmth and good humor. During special times of the year, the nutrition team sometimes treats students to holiday music, friendly competitions, or green eggs and ham! It’s the smiles, and warmth, and thoughtfulness, and Ms. Kathy's pink hair that make our students feel loved.
Right back at ya “Lunch Ladies!”
Here’s to a fun-filled weekend for all!
~ Mary
