WinterKids Winter Games Updates

Week 4:

This is the final week of our WinterKids Games activities at school, but with an active WinterKids App, families can still participate in many Family Day events. To sign up for the app free of charge, go to https://app.winterkids.orgmembership/sign_up  and enter the code for Marcia Buker- MBES25.

Week Three:

Wind

This week's daily weather monitoring -we finally had precipitation and wind to measure!

We also have some pictures of friends experiencing the outdoors through art, drawing the wind or cold or using our senses outside!

Some friends did the "Do you want to build a snowman" activity indoors during our days that were TOO cold to be outside for recess!

Week Two:

Precipitation

Week 2 of the Winter Games was all about precipitation! Students participated in activities that involved taking snow measurements, measuring snow angels, predicting height measurements and measuring for accuracy. Student's are recording their daily weather observations and hoping for precipitation, but no luck this week!

Week One:

Temperature

During week one of the WinterKids Winter Games, students learned about temperature, exploring how it’s measured, how it impacts weather, and its role in outdoor activities. Hands-on activities helped them understand the importance of staying warm and safe in winter conditions.

WinterGames Opening Ceremony

This past Monday, Marcia Buker School proudly hosted the kickoff event for the WinterKids Games 2025. The event began with a lively parade around the playground, where students and staff proudly showcased student-made banners and mitten flags. Adding to the excitement, our Bobcat mascot and some high school students led everyone in a spirited cheer that energized the crowd.

Remarks were shared by representatives from WinterKids as well as our own gym teacher, Mr. Haskell, who highlighted the importance of staying active and enjoying outdoor fun. WMTW was on campus to capture the festivities (you can find the brief news clip on their website).

During the next four weeks, MBES students will engage in fun, weather-themed challenges as part of the WinterKids Winter Games 2025. While we aim to complete as many activities as possible—and maybe even win a prize—our main goal is to enjoy learning about weather and exploring the outdoors together. Families are encouraged to participate by exploring weather science at home and discussing school activities with their children.

We are so proud of our school community for kicking off the WinterKids Games with such enthusiasm and look forward to continuing the fun and learning!

Below you will find some highlights from the opening ceremony!
